Consulting Engagements

In addition to providing Contract and Permanent PMs, TAP-a-PM can provide a variety of Consulting Engagements for clients. We have broken these engagements into several major types. The essential idea is that we can come to your company and engage with you to help with anything from getting started with project management concepts for a first or new project, to helping you launch a new project, to performing project post-mortems to help improve your next projects, as well as almost anything in between. We can also provide continued monitoring, coaching, mentoring and mid-project correction services during your project development cycle, as well as perform Training on various topics. Note the Engagements listed below can be tailored to your specific needs.

Project Kickstart Engagement

  • Project Definition
  • Development Lifecycle and Processes Analysis
  • Requirements Analysis and Development
  • Defining Core Team
  • New Product Concept Brainstorming
  • Business Analysis
  • Initial Planning techniques

Project Launch Engagement

  • Two or three of our skilled project managers will caucus with client’s team to identify the project purpose, establish measurable goals, create the work breakdown structure, estimate the effort, link the tasks with dependencies, and document the plan using the tools familiar to their organization. In addition, the group will engineer quantitative risk assessment and create contingency plans and identify risk triggers. This approach provides both a solid plan and excellent training for the employees. The return will be several multiples of this low investment.
  • Optional follow-on monitoring and coaching ensures adherence to the plan and continued development and growth of the project team. Our team members employ either traditional project management or agile methods such as scrum as appropriate to your situation.

Project Methodology Selection

  • Analyze the organization’s industry, staff, products and projects, and select an appropriate methodology
  • Methodologies that will be considered include traditional (PMBOK, waterfall, PERT, CMM, CPM), agile, lean, scrum, critical chain, and others.

Project Methodology Implementation

  • As a follow-on to the selection or as a standalone engagement when the client prefers a particular methodology
  • Create process flows including area-specific documentation (e.g. for the PMO, for R&D, Testing, Support, etc.) Preliminary estimates are approximately 2-4 consultant-weeks depending on how many organizations
  • Get buy-in to the processes: 1 consultant-week
  • Train the organizations on the processes: 1-2 consultant weeks

Mid-Project Assessment and Correction

  • Assess project status
  • Determine possible corrective actions
  • Negotiate with project team and sponsor
  • Reset priorities
  • Adjust project plan
